ASX queries Virgin

Australian carrier Virgin Blue has been questioned by the Australian Securities Exchange over its surprise second profit downgrade in less than a month.

The carrier is understood to have assured the ASX that its revised earnings guidance was released as soon as the information - termed a radical decline in yields - became available.

It is now claiming profits will be in the A$20m-A$40m range.

Rival Qantas said Friday its pre-tax profit would be in the A$300m-A$400m range for the June financial year.
