Global adds a sixth A380

UK-based startup Global Airlines has purchased its first A380 jet and says it plans to take passengers back to the "golden age of travel" on transatlantic routes.

Owner James Asquith had acquired five Airbus A380s last year, but this is its first purchase; the plane previously was part of the China Southern Airlines fleet.

Work is now under way to get the Airbus ready to welcome passengers.

It is planned flights will launch later this year, operating from London to New York and Los Angeles.

The airline still needs approval from the UK's Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and the USA's Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) plus an air operator certificate (AOC).

Asquith has told media: “People are sick and tired of the service they get on current airlines. We will be better”, with first-class ticket holders entitled to chauffeur-driven airport transfers and to have a “proper social space” on board.
